Malawi Congress Party (MCP) member of parliament for Lilongwe North and Minister of Defence, Monica Chayang’anamuno, recently invited Form Four students from Nsalu Secondary School on a parliamentary tour.
The goal was to provide the students with hands-on experience and insight into the country’s governance system.
Chayang’anamuno emphasized the importance of encouraging students, particularly those learning about governance, to witness firsthand how parliament operates.
“We thought it wise to bring them here, so they can see for themselves how the parliament is governed,” she said.
By doing so, the students can move beyond theoretical knowledge and gain practical understanding of the roles of the speaker, ministers, and members of parliament.
The students were selected based on their outstanding academic performance, and the tour served as a motivational tool to encourage them to continue working hard.
Chayang’anamuno expressed her commitment to providing similar opportunities to students from other schools, stating that as long as there are opportunities, she will ensure that more students visit parliament.
Nsalu Secondary School social studies teacher, Micheal Nkhata, praised the tour, highlighting its significance in helping students understand the arms of government and the roles of parliament.
He emphasized that the experience is a life-changer, providing students with valuable insight into parliamentary deliberations.
One of the students, Febbie Mwanguku, described the tour as “amazing,” noting that it allowed them to witness legislators debating on issues related to government development and political violence.
By hosting the parliamentary tour, Chayang’anamuno demonstrated her dedication to promoting education and motivating students in her constituency.
