By Vincent Gunde

Renown politician Dr. Uladi Mussa has told President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera that people of Salima are in hunger crisis observing that in most parts of the district the maize has dried up due to no rainfall and the rainfall which has been falling in the district for the past 3 days, will change nothing on the situation.

The sentiments by Mussa has put the record straight that all districts in Malawi are in hunger crisis including central region districts which have for years been a food basket region, its people are sleeping with empty stomachs.

Members of Parliament in the central region have been quiet on the hunger crisis and at one point, most households were surviving on cooked ripe mangoes, this was not a story and the focus was with the southern region of Malawi where people were reported to be eating wild fruits (Chitedze and Nyika) for their survival.

Speaking at the 2025 Eid Ul-Fitr prayers in Salima on Monday, Mussa said the roads in Salima are in bad state praying for President Chakwera’s bouncing back into government that he will construct the road going to Lake Malawi and name it Uladi Mussa Highway.

Mussa praised President Chakwera as a man who was born with love to all regardless of religion, tribe and region saying he was forgiven while serving a 3 year’s jail sentence at Maula Prison observing that had President Chakwera not taken his hand on him, he would have been in Prison and he was expecting to be released this year.

He said there were the previous governments which were against the Moslems claiming that first, they arrested Mr. Yusuf Mwawa, Dr. Cassim Chilumpha, Dr. Bakili Muluzi , Atupele Muluzi and himself saying President Chakwera has the love for the Moslem community.

The politician said Dr. Muluzi’s K1.7 billion corruption case is now a forgotten story, President Chakwera ordered for the discontinuation of the case which has taken 14 years without reaching to its conclusion speaking for itself that he and Dr. Bakili Muluzi are free men.

He advised President Chakwera to continue loving the Moslem community saying in return they will give him the same love by supporting his candidature observing that Islam teaches people to give credit by thanking one for the good gesture.

“Mr. President, continue to love us the Islam, we will give you the same love for you to do the same to the other people,” said Mussa.

He also asked President Chakwera to consider that there be a public Holiday in Malawi on the 6th June Eid UL-Adhuha saying this will give the Moslems ample time to kill livestock for meat to share with their friends and relatives
.
The 2025 Eid Ul-Fitr prayers have seen all aspiring presidential candidates gracing the prayers, President Chakwera in Salima, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika in Balaka, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe in Mangochi and Odya zake alibe mulandu Dr. Michael Usi in Mangochi too.
