Muviwachilungamo Revolutionary has expressed concern that it is being sidelined in various election-related activities.
The party’s Secretary General, Greyson Mikuwa, has stated that they are surprised that when organizations invite political parties to electoral events, they primarily select representatives from major political parties, despite the fact that Muviwachilungamo Revolutionary will also be contesting in the elections.
Mikuwa cited, as an example, the Centre for Multiparty Democracy (CMD), which he claims works only with parties that have members in the National Assembly.
“Through this approach, smaller political parties are being denied access to important information,” he said.
CMD’s executive director, Boniface Chibwana, explained that his organization follows its own procedures but, in some cases, they invite other political parties when granted permission by their superiors.
Chibwana emphasized that CMD sometimes extends invitations to other parties whenever they have specific activities that require broader political participation.
Muviwachilungamo Revolutionary’s concerns reflect a broader challenge faced by smaller political parties in Malawi, which often struggle to gain recognition and inclusion in key electoral processes.
The exclusion of minor political parties from crucial discussions and decision-making forums raises questions about the fairness and inclusivity of the country’s democratic system.
As Malawi prepares for upcoming elections, the need for equal representation and participation of all political parties remains a critical issue that requires urgent attention.
Smaller political parties like Muviwachilungamo Revolutionary argue that their voices deserve to be heard, as they, too, represent segments of the Malawian electorate who seek alternative leadership choices.
Unless steps are taken to ensure inclusivity, concerns over political favoritism and unfair electoral practices may continue to undermine public confidence in Malawi’s democracy.
It remains to be seen whether electoral stakeholders, including CMD and other institutions, will take action to address these concerns and create a level playing field for all political participants.
