Today marks a historical moment when Judge, Irma Schoeman, a well-experienced Gqeberha High Court Judge, made a bold decision to acquit the celebrated Nigerian televangelist, Timothy Omotoso of Jesus Dominion International (JDI) in South Africa from criminal charges of rape, sexual assault and human trafficking among other previously dropped charges.
The acquittal of Pastor Timothy Omotoso after spending 8 years in jail awaiting justice has raised concerns about the fairness and reliability of the South African justice system.
Corollary, this development has sparked uncertainty about whether Prophet Bushiri will receive the justice he deserves if he is extradited from Malawi to South Africa.
Bushiri and his wife, Mary, are facing charges of fraud, money laundering, and rape in South Africa.
It must be known that the Malawi’s court ordered Prophet Bushiri and his wife’s extradition to South Africa, but their legal team requested the judiciary to pause the extradition order.
With the foregoing circumstances, the Bushiri’s fate still remains uncertain.
What is mindboggling is that it is unclear why the South African Home Affairs department announced that Omotoso would be deported back to Nigeria despite being found not guilty.
Typically, deportation proceedings are initiated when an individual is found guilty of a crime and is considered a threat to national security or public safety.
Does Pastor Timothy Omotoso remain a threat to South Africa after being acquitted?
In conclusion, suffice to say that the so-called men of God , pastors, reverends, prophets and sheikhs are human beings.
Therefore, it is advisable that persons of weak emotional intelligence including some women, some minors and some wives be protected at all cost.
