Respected legal practitioner Counsel Sylvester James Ayuba has penned a heartfelt plea to Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera, urging him to rise to the occasion and take decisive action amidst growing national unrest and political discontent.

In a direct message that reflects the deepening frustration among citizens and professionals alike, Ayuba wrote:
“Please, your Excellency, come to work. Rise to the occasion and show leadership. Please. Your kids are burning your house while you are around and watching. Intervene, Sir, and show your presence. Please.”
This message, terse yet powerful, reflects what many believe is the deteriorating state of governance and accountability in Malawi. It suggests that some within the nation, including close allies or officials, are contributing to the destruction of the very institutions they were elected to protect—while the President remains aloof or silent.

Ayuba’s statement has struck a chord with many Malawians who have witnessed scandals, economic turmoil, public mistrust, and political infighting engulf the Tonse-led administration. The plea for the President to “show his presence” symbolizes a broader call for visible, proactive leadership rather than speeches and overseas trips.
At a time when confidence in state institutions continues to wane, voices like Ayuba’s are emerging as reminders that leadership is not just about occupying office, but actively steering the nation out of crisis. His words echo the thoughts of many Malawians waiting for their President to lead by example in action—not just words.
