UTM President Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has emphasized the need to revive Malawi’s struggling economy, stating that although Malawians are known for their hard work, they remain trapped in poverty due to a collapsed economy that requires urgent attention.
Dr. Kabambe made the remarks during a whistle stop tour in Ngokwe, Machinga, marking the beginning of his outreach campaign in the region. Addressing enthusiastic crowds, he assured the people that he possesses the necessary expertise to stabilize and rebuild the nation’s economy, citing his vast experience in economic management.
“Malawians are not lazy — they are some of the most hardworking people in the region. The problem is not effort; the problem is the system that has failed them. Our economy is on its knees, and it must be fixed for the people to thrive,” said Dr. Kabambe.
He pledged a new economic direction under his leadership, one that prioritizes inclusive growth, job creation, and financial independence for households across the country.
Backing the UTM leader’s sentiments, UTM Publicity Secretary Felix Njawala accused the current government of implementing poor economic policies that have only deepened poverty. He said Dr. Kabambe’s leadership offers a fresh start for Malawians burdened by hardship and hunger.
“Dr. Kabambe is not just making promises — he has a track record. He has come to rescue Malawians from the economic chaos created by this administration,” Njawala said.
As part of his outreach, Dr. Kabambe visited Namwera in Mangochi where he distributed maize flour and blankets to vulnerable households, showcasing his commitment to addressing immediate community needs while working on long-term solutions.
The UTM leader’s tour is expected to continue across other districts, as the party builds momentum towards offering what it calls “a realistic and people-centered alternative” to Malawi’s current political and economic leadership.
