The Super League of Malawi (SULOM) has officially charged Silver Strikers Football Club, Ekhaya FC, and Ekhaya goalkeeper Elias Missi with various counts of misconduct, following a spate of controversial incidents in recent league matches.
In a statement released Thursday, SULOM accuses Silver Strikers of failing to control their supporters, leading to violent pitch invasions and actions deemed damaging to the image of Malawi’s top-flight league. The club, one of Malawi’s most prominent teams, is now under scrutiny for potential breaches of league regulations concerning crowd control and sportsmanship.
Ekhaya FC, meanwhile, finds itself in hot water over its goalkeeper Elias Missi’s alleged violent conduct. Missi reportedly attempted to strangle a player from Nyasa Big Bullets during a heated encounter last weekend — an act that shocked fans and drew widespread condemnation on social media. The club itself also faces charges of bringing the league into disrepute due to its handling of the situation.
“All the concerned parties have been summoned to appear before the Disciplinary Committee,” confirmed SULOM’s General Secretary in the statement. “We are committed to upholding the integrity of the league and ensuring that all stakeholders adhere to the highest standards of conduct.”
The hearing dates are yet to be announced, but the football fraternity is already abuzz with speculation over possible fines, suspensions, or other sanctions.
This development has reignited debate on discipline and professionalism in Malawian football, with many stakeholders calling for stricter enforcement of rules to protect the league’s reputation and promote fair play.
