Independent candidate Mussa Saidan has officially joined the race for the Mangochi Municipal parliamentary seat in the highly anticipated September 16, 2025 general election, promising a development-driven and peaceful campaign.

Amid cheers and chants from supporters, Saidan submitted his nomination papers at the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) offices located at St. Augustine 3. In a passionate address to his followers, he urged residents to uphold peace throughout the campaign season.

“Some people may try to provoke violence, but don’t stoop to their level,” Saidan advised. “Let’s remain calm and use our vote as our voice. Show your power on election day. Vote Mussa Saidan for a better Mangochi.”

Saidan outlined his development agenda, focusing on four major pillars: education, agriculture, tourism, and mining. He emphasized that these sectors hold the key to unlocking jobs and prosperity in the lakeside municipality.

Meanwhile, Mariam Sambo, MEC’s officer overseeing the submission process, confirmed that seven candidates had filed for councilor positions and two for Member of Parliament as of Sunday, July 27.

“We’re expecting more before the final deadline on Wednesday, July 30,” Sambo noted, adding that network glitches have slowed down document processing. “Despite the delays, preparations for the polls remain on track, and we anticipate no disruptions in transmitting results to Lilongwe.”
