APM promises economic stability and leadership renewal

By Burnett Munthali

Former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed his commitment to leading Malawi back to stability and prosperity, following the official presentation of his presidential nomination papers on Friday, alongside his runningmate, Dr. Jane Ansah.

Writing on his official Facebook page, Mutharika extended his heartfelt appreciation to the thousands of supporters who showed up to stand with him and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) during the nomination day event.

He described the overwhelming turnout and subsequent endorsements as both “reassuring” and a clear reminder that “Malawians love DPP and APM” just as the party leadership continues to love and serve them.

Professor Mutharika stated that his decision to contest in the September 2025 elections is not motivated by personal gain but by a strong desire to work with Malawians in rescuing the country from what he described as “five years of despair and chaos.”

He emphasized that the current situation in the country requires “proven and experienced leadership” that understands the core challenges Malawi is facing and can immediately begin to implement solutions post-election.

According to Mutharika, his leadership, alongside Dr. Jane Ansah and the broader DPP structure, is ready and operational. He assured Malawians that this team is poised to roll out solutions aimed at transforming the country as soon as it assumes office.

He further assured the public that his administration will prioritize reducing inflation, ensuring the availability of forex for businesses, eliminating dubious government contracts, and intensifying the fight against corruption.

In addition, Mutharika promised to restore a governance culture that rewards merit and professionalism while laying a strong foundation for economic development and national progress.

He told supporters that what they witnessed on Friday during the nomination event was not just a political formality but the unveiling of the leadership Malawi needs at this crucial time.

Mutharika added that in the coming days, the DPP will officially launch its 2025 manifesto, outlining policy priorities and campaign strategies for the months ahead.

He encouraged supporters across the country to mobilize once more and join the campaign trail in large numbers as the party prepares for a return to “experienced and proven leadership.”

The remarks by Mutharika come at a time when many Malawians are grappling with rising prices, scarcity of forex, and growing concerns over government mismanagement and unfulfilled promises.

As the campaign period approaches, Mutharika’s message is expected to resonate strongly with segments of the population seeking stability, economic recovery, and a return to what some describe as the more orderly leadership style of his previous administration.

Mutharika’s re-entry into the race, paired with the controversial yet respected figure of Dr. Jane Ansah, signals a strategic move by the DPP to rebrand and reignite its support base heading into the decisive September 2025 polls.
