Chakwera urges faith in Malawis development path

President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has called on Malawians to remain patient and united in working towards a shared national vision that the country will achieve meaningful development by the year 2030.

Chakwera said this on Sunday when he joined congregants of the African Church at their headquarters for a church service held at Chilumba Secondary School in Karonga.

“Since being elected in 2020, my administration has rolled out development projects across the country, including the construction of roads, bridges and border posts aimed at improving connectivity and boosting trade. These initiatives are designed to lay the foundation for sustainable growth and prosperity for all Malawians,” said Chakwera.

“Over 300,000 farmers have accessed loans to boost agricultural productivity, while more than 4,000 houses have been constructed for security personnel. My administration has also promoted civil servants and introduced tax waivers to stimulate economic activity and ease the cost of doing business,” he added.

The President, however, warned against acts of economic sabotage, saying some individuals were deliberately trying to derail progress and paint his administration in a bad light.

“As a nation, we must work together and refuse to be distracted by those who seek to harm our economy for personal gain. We are on the right track, and with your trust, we will finish what we have started,” he said.

He concluded by appealing to Malawians to vote for him in the September 16 general elections so that he can continue delivering on his promises.

On his part, Reverend Helton Gondwe, Financial Controller of the African Church, thanked President Chakwera for being the first Head of State to congregate with them since the church was established in 1928.

“We are grateful for the 200 bags of cement the President donated towards the construction of our new church building, “said Gondwe.

He further commended the President for his choice of running mate, Vitumbiko Mumba, noting that the church was pleased with the decision and would reciprocate by supporting him at the polls.

During the service, the church introduced newly ordained Reverend Allen Thindwa to the public.

As a token of appreciation, the congregation also presented President Chakwera with a cow.
