Nsanje, Malawi — Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential running mate Jane Ansah has assured voters that the party’s president, Peter Mutharika, will launch a full-scale economic recovery plan if the DPP returns to power after the September 16, 2025, Malawi General Elections.
Speaking during a whistle-stop campaign rally in Marka, Nsanje District, Ansah promised urgent action to address Malawi’s economic crisis, including rising prices of goods, foreign exchange shortages, and persistent fuel scarcity.

She blamed the current administration for implementing “policies hostile to Malawians,” saying they have led to skyrocketing costs of basic commodities, a worsening forex situation, and frequent fuel queues.
“Foreign exchange is a nightmare, and fuel shortages are rampant. These are the direct results of poor economic management,” Ansah told supporters. “Once voted into power on September 16, things will change for the better.”
The former Malawi Electoral Commission chairperson also pledged governance reforms, expanded rural development projects, and targeted poverty-alleviation initiatives to benefit poor and vulnerable communities.
