Lilongwe, Malawi – Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) president Prof. Arthur Peter Mutharika has dismissed circulating claims that he plans to govern Malawi for only one year or one month if elected in the September 16, 2025 presidential elections.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Chilimampunga, Lilongwe, the former head of state assured his supporters that he is committed to serving a full five-year term as mandated by the Malawian constitution.
“Once elected, I will serve my full mandate and ensure that the problems affecting Malawians come to an end,” said Mutharika.
The DPP leader emphasized that rumors questioning his fitness to rule were false and politically motivated. He stressed that his administration’s focus will be on reviving the economy, stabilizing fuel and food supplies, and improving social services for Malawians.

Mutharika, who previously governed Malawi from 2014 to 2020, told supporters that he has the experience and vision to tackle the challenges facing the nation. He also called for unity within the party and urged Malawians to turn out in large numbers on September 16 to vote for change.
