Lilongwe, Malawi – United Democratic Front (UDF) president Atupele Muluzi has promised to stabilize the Malawian kwacha and ease the rising cost of living if elected president in next week’s polls.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Mchesi, Lilongwe, Muluzi assured Malawians that his administration would prioritize economic stability by preventing the kwacha from further depreciating on the foreign exchange market.
“Be thankful that I am coming in starting next week, otherwise the kwacha would have already reached K10,000 to one US dollar,” said Muluzi, stressing that a stable currency is key to controlling inflation and the high prices of essential goods.
Muluzi expressed concern over the worsening hardships faced by both urban and rural communities, noting that Malawians are struggling to meet basic needs. He highlighted the need for urgent reforms to rebuild the economy and restore hope.

As the presidential election approaches, Muluzi’s campaign has focused on economic reforms, job creation, and currency stabilization — issues that resonate strongly with Malawians amid growing financial pressures.
