Khonyongwa calls MCP to prove from its monitors rigged elections

By Vincent Gunde

Lawyer Gilbert Khonyongwa, says all political parties whose candidates were contesting on the 16th September, 2025 elections had monitors and these monitors signed on each document to signify and acknowledge the correctness of the information there on.

Khonyongwa has claimed that each party operated its own tally centre to receive results from monitors and by now the designated monitors had duly submitted their result sheets to their parties or whoever was assigned to receive on behalf of the parties.

Writing on his face book page, Khonyongwa says tabulations have been done and numbers known of which Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is claiming that the elections has been rigged urging the party to show Malawians what its monitors had submitted that shows that President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has won the election and by what margin, simple.

Khonyongwa’s face book page writings have come following the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) which has released its 2025 election results per district showing national totals, people that casted their votes on the 16th September, 2025.

In the national totals, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika got 2,993,057 votes representing 60.6 percent, Dr. Lazarus Chakwera 1,737,507 votes representing 35.2 percent while Dr. Dalitso Kabambe got 206,712 votes representing 4.2 percent.

During the MCP presser, Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) running mate Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba said the party has launched a complaint with Mec suspecting the DPP to have rigged the elections, a claim which was dismissed by Mec Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja that the Commission hasn’t received any complaint from the MCP.

The Investigator magazine has reported that its investigations from a range of polling stations across the country, have revealed that Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika was overwhelmingly voted and his votes are enough to claim the presidency, a position he lost in June, 2020.

The magazine said from the its investigations, President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has lost the elections and two of his loyalists Mec Chief Executive Officer Andrew Mpesi and MACRA Director General Daud Suleiman are reportedly working behind the scenes to manipulate election figures for a possible Re-Run.

“This is clearly undermining the will of the people and is denying victory of the leading contender Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika,” reads part of the magazine’s writings.

News Central TV Africa has reported that Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika is leading in the results released by Mec saying Malawians know who they have voted for and really want things to change in their country.
