Uladi Mussa Resigns from MCP, Shifts Focus to Charity Work

By Suleman Chitera

Former cabinet minister and veteran politician, Hon. Uladi Mussa, has officially resigned from the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), marking what he describes as his retirement from active politics.

Mussa, who is popularly known in Malawian politics as “Chenji Golo” for his history of switching political parties, made the announcement after his defeat in both the parliamentary and presidential races.

Why Uladi Mussa Resigned from MCP

In his statement, Uladi Mussa said his decision to step down has nothing to do with internal party wrangles but rather a personal choice to redirect his energy and time.

“I want to serve Malawians in a different way. For now, I have decided to take a break from active politics and concentrate on charity work,” he said.

He emphasized that his resignation should not be interpreted as political frustration, adding that he is leaving on his own terms.

From Prison to Politics

Uladi Mussa joined the MCP after being released from prison during the Chakwera-led government. Over the years, he has remained a household name in Malawian politics, mostly because of his dramatic shifts between parties. His resilience and influence have made him both admired and criticized by political commentators.

What Next for Uladi Mussa?

While many expected Mussa to continue shaping the political landscape, the veteran politician insists his focus will now be on charity and humanitarian work. This marks a new chapter in his career, away from the political battles that have defined his name for decades.

Political analysts suggest that his resignation might shake up MCP politics, especially as the party reorganises after the 2025 elections. However, supporters believe his shift to social service could still keep him relevant in national affairs.

Legacy of “Chenji Golo”

Uladi Mussa’s political career has been colourful, controversial, and influential. From ministerial positions to party switches, he has left an indelible mark on Malawi’s political history. Whether or not this marks his permanent exit from politics, his decision to dedicate himself to charity may soften his public image and cement his legacy in a new way.
