Former Member of Parliament for Central Mangochi Constituency, Victoria Kingstone, has been arrested over allegations of plotting criminal activities aimed at forcing a parliamentary election re-run in the area.
Kingstone allegedly orchestrated a plan targeting the current sitting MP, Roza Fatch, with the intention of creating unrest that could lead to the annulment of the previous election results.
Police in Makokola, Mangochi District, also arrested two individuals — Sanudi Sande and Asiatu Amani — believed to have been part of the plot. The two reportedly confessed during police interrogation that they were acting on Kingstone’s instructions.
Mangochi Police Spokesperson Amina Tepani Daudi confirmed the arrests, stating that Kingstone remains in police custody as investigations continue.
“Yes, we have arrested the former MP and two others in connection with the matter. More details will be provided once our investigations are complete,” Daudi told Capital FM.
The alleged plot has sparked public concern over the integrity of electoral processes and the growing trend of political tension in Malawi’s southern region.
