Mangochi, Malawi — President Arthur Peter Mutharika has reaffirmed his commitment to making the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) a truly national political party that accommodates and represents all Malawians, regardless of tribe, region, or religion.
Speaking on Saturday at Page House in Mangochi, the President said his government is determined to unite Malawians and restore the spirit of inclusiveness that has always defined the DPP since its formation.
“The Democratic Progressive Party is not a regional or tribal party — it is a national movement that belongs to all Malawians,” said President Mutharika. “Whether you come from the North, Centre, or South, the DPP is your home. We are one people under one flag.”
President Mutharika, who reclaimed power through a landslide victory in the 2025 general elections, said his government’s focus is on rebuilding the economy, promoting unity, and delivering development that benefits every Malawian.
“The people of Malawi voted for unity, peace, and progress,” Mutharika said. “This government will serve every Malawian equally. No region or group will be left behind.”
He condemned tribal and regional politics, saying such divisions have slowed Malawi’s development for decades.
“We must reject the politics of hatred and division,” he said. “Let us stand together as one Malawi, one nation, one destiny.”
DPP Secretary General Peter Mukhito echoed the President’s message, saying the party is undergoing organizational reforms to strengthen its presence across the country and ensure equal representation of all regions.
“Under President Mutharika’s leadership, the DPP is returning to its founding values of unity, discipline, and development for all,” Mukhito said. “We are opening the party to all Malawians — youth, women, and elders — to build a stronger, united Malawi.”
Political analysts say President Mutharika’s speech in Mangochi reflects his broader vision to rebrand the DPP as a national party and position his administration as a unifying force for the country.
