Vice President Justice Dr. Jane Mayemu Ansah, SC, JA (Rtd), has extended financial assistance amounting to MK2 million to Malawi’s war veterans who participated in global military missions.

The support comes as the nation commemorates the courage and sacrifice of soldiers who fought to defend Malawi’s sovereignty and contribute to international peace.

Dr. Ansah said the donation represents government’s continued gratitude to the men and women who risked their lives to secure freedom and stability for the country.

She emphasized that the welfare of the veterans remains a national priority and that government is committed to ensuring that retired soldiers live dignified lives.

The Vice President further appealed to all Malawians to take part in assisting and honouring the veterans, saying collective action is key to showing appreciation for their service.

She reaffirmed that her administration will continue to explore more ways of supporting the former soldiers, both financially and socially, as a gesture of national appreciation.

Dr. Ansah also highlighted that the contribution was not only a symbol of gratitude but also a call to unity — urging citizens to remember that the peace enjoyed today was earned through sacrifice.

The donation was made ahead of the national commemoration of Poppy Day, an event that honours all soldiers who fought bravely for Malawi and the Commonwealth during times of war.
