Prophet Shepherd Bushiri has announced that he has taken former Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Steven Kayuni to court, seeking answers over what he describes as an unjust and inhumane directive that allegedly prevented his late child from receiving urgent medical treatment.

According to a statement shared on Bushiri’s official Facebook page, the incident dates back to when his five-year-old child required specialized medical attention in Kenya. Bushiri claims that Kayuni, who was representing the State of Malawi in legal matters at the time, acted on instructions from authorities in South Africa to block the child from leaving Malawi.

The child was reportedly held at Kamuzu International Airport for five days, causing a delay in critical medical intervention. Bushiri says this delay contributed to the death of his child.

Bushiri Seeks Accountability

While Bushiri states that he has personally forgiven Kayuni, he emphasises that the case is not about personal anger but about accountability and justice. He questions why officials who exercise power in ways that affect lives are not held responsible for the consequences of their decisions.

“This matter is not about revenge. It is about accountability. People in positions of authority should be answerable when their decisions lead to loss of life,” Bushiri stated.

The Prophet further insists that he wants clarity on who specifically issued the directive from South Africa, calling the move “cruel and inhumane.”
