Second Vice President Enock Chihana has warned that any government that restricts freedom of speech or blocks citizens from holding demonstrations is “archaic and unfit” to govern in the modern era.
Speaking in Nkhatabay during commemorations of International Human Rights Day, Chihana stressed that true leadership means protecting citizens’ liberties, not suppressing them.
“This government will make sure people enjoy their rights and freedoms, rather than oppressing them under the guise of providing basic goods and services,” said Chihana.
He emphasized that Malawians must be free to express themselves, protest peacefully, and hold leaders accountable — cornerstones of any democratic society.
