More than K60 million has been stolen during an armed robbery at a fuel filling station operated by TotalEnergies Malawi in Masasa, Ntcheu District.

Confirming the incident, Malawi Police Service spokesperson for Ntcheu, Jacob Khembo, said the robbery involved five suspects who were armed with pangas and other weapons. The assailants reportedly overpowered and tied up four security guards before breaking into the shop at the station and making away with cash estimated to be in excess of K60 million.

Khembo said no injuries were reported during the incident, but described the robbery as well-coordinated and violent in nature.

Police have since launched a manhunt for the suspects and are appealing to members of the public to provide any information that may lead to their arrest.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
