Maria Asghar’s exit from Lilongwe Private School marks the culmination of a tumultuous tenure, marred by allegations of mismanagement, favoritism, and poor working conditions. The toxic environment she allegedly fostered isolated staff and fueled division, ultimately leading to her downfall.

As Ms. Asghar bid farewell to the school on Tuesday, 13 January, her attempts to apologize to teachers for years of mistreatment were met with stony silence. Her presence was ignored, and staff had openly challenged her to leave. The teachers, weary of her unkindness and abuse, were unmoved by her tears.
A bid to deflect racism allegations by reallocating standard one classes backfired, with children causing a scene and refusing to leave their teachers. Ms. Asghar was left bewildered, her situation spiraling out of control. The school board’s attempts to contact her were ignored, and she hastily packed her belongings with cleaners’ help.

Ms. Asghar’s swift exit was followed by an announcement that she planned to establish her own school, citing Lilongwe Private School’s lack of resources. Her reputation preceded her, and parents and teachers questioned who would follow her to a new venture.
Racism allegations, unprofessional behavior, mismanagement, and staff intimidation marked Ms. Asghar’s tenure. The school board’s response was criticized as inadequate, with some members defending her despite concerns. Teachers call for urgent intervention to restore professionalism and respect.
Lilongwe Private School’s community breathes a sigh of relief, looking forward to a brighter future, free from Ms. Asghar’s tumultuous legacy.
