A devastating incident occurred in Makanjira, Mangochi, on Sunday, December 22, 2024, when 25-year-old Peter Davis was fatally shot during a confrontation with police officers.

According to eyewitness Alick Salama, the altercation began when police attempted to disperse a crowd, but the situation escalated, leading to the fatal shooting. Salama recounted.

“The police were trying to control the crowd, but people were not cooperating, and that’s when the chaos started. The police fired shots, and unfortunately, Peter Davis was hit and rushed to Mangochi Hospital.”

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with local leader Group Village Headman Makanjira expressing concerns about the growing tensions between residents and law enforcement.

“Things are not going well in Makanjira, as people are becoming increasingly hostile towards the police,” he stated.

Mangochi Police Station spokesperson Amina Daudi acknowledged the incident and assured that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting.

“We urge calm and cooperation as we work to establish the facts,” she said.

The community remains on edge, and authorities are working to restore peace and order in the area.
