The Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has suffered a notable internal blow following the resignation of its Second Deputy Director of Public Relations, Isaac Mwepa, who has also terminated his party membership with immediate effect.
In a resignation letter addressed to MCP Secretary General Richard Chimwendo Banda, Mwepa said his decision was personal, citing the need to redirect his focus toward business interests and other pressing priorities.
His exit comes barely months after he unsuccessfully contested the Chitipa North parliamentary seat in the September 16 General Elections, a race that had positioned him as one of the party’s visible faces in the northern region.
Mwepa’s departure removes a key communicator from the MCP’s publicity machinery at a time when the party is consolidating its political footing ahead of future electoral contests. While the party has not yet issued an official response to the resignation, the development is likely to raise questions about internal morale and post-election realignments within the governing party.
A seasoned political communicator, Mwepa had been active in articulating MCP positions and defending party policies in the public arena, making his sudden resignation both symbolic and politically significant.
Efforts to reach MCP leadership for comment by press time were unsuccessful.
