Licy Gondwe Nkosi, the only female candidate contesting the Rumphi Central parliamentary seat in the forthcoming by-elections, has emphasized the need for the constituency to give a woman the opportunity to drive development.
She noted that Rumphi Central has consistently elected leaders whose interests have been disappointing since the advent of democracy in Malawi.
Reconfirming her candidature yesterday, Friday, Gondwe said she has retained the manifesto she used in the September 16, 2025 election, which focuses on infrastructure development, including the construction of concrete bridges and improved school blocks.
Running on an independent ticket, Gondwe pledged to maintain the same status in the by-election and promised an inclusive approach to development in the constituency.
“Indeed I am the only woman contesting in the by-election, and I cannot give up. I believe in bringing positive change to the people of Rumphi Central,” she said.
She further highlighted her commitment to responding to community needs, citing her recent support to young people practising irrigation at Mjuma along the Lunyina River, where she provided a treadle pump, underscoring her continued support for education and sports initiatives in the area.
