The thrilling encounter looked destined to end in a stalemate before Sibale emerged as the hero in the 90th minute, sending the home crowd into wild celebrations with a decisive header that earned the Ingwinas of Karonga all three points.

Karonga United controlled much of the match and created numerous scoring opportunities, particularly in the first half. Despite dominating possession and attacking play, Karonga nearly paid the price for their missed opportunities late in the game. In the 87th minute, Red Lions came within inches of snatching a shock winner when Shukuran Mussa broke through on goal, only for Karonga goalkeeper Eddie Jamu to produce a magnificent save to keep the scores level.

That crucial stop proved to be the turning point of the match.

Just three minutes later, captain Pilirani Thulu delivered a pinpoint cross from the right flank and Sibale rose above the Red Lions defence to power home a header, sealing a memorable victory for the hosts.End of oxygen shortages in sight for Karonga District Hospital

The win marks Karonga United’s first success at home this season after previously drawing against Mafco FC and losing to Masters FC. It also ended Red Lions’ impressive unbeaten run following their return to the top flight, having recorded two wins and three draws in their opening five matches.

Karonga United coach Audro Makonyola praised his players for their determination and refusal to give up despite wasting several chances throughout the game.Bullets Blaze Into Airtel Top 8 Final After Edging Karonga United

“We were superb today and a draw would have been hard to take, but my players never gave up in pushing for a goal and we were finally rewarded for our efforts,” said Makonyola.

Red Lions coach Malumbo Mkandawire, however, expressed frustration with the officiating.

“The referees were against us today from the start of the game. We never got any decisions going our way. We defended well and should have at least taken a point,” Mkandawire said.

The victory lifts Karonga United to eighth position on the FDH Bank Premiership table with eight points from six matches, while Red Lions drop to seventh place with nine points from the same number of games.Jane Ansah visits Paramount Chief Kyungu as DPP campaign intensifies in Karonga
