The Supreme Court of Appeal has overturned the 16 September 2025 parliamentary election results for Mangochi East, citing serious electoral irregularities.Why Malawi’s Constitutional Court Nullified the 2019 Presidential Elections But Left Parliamentary and Councillor Polls Untouched
In a landmark ruling delivered by a nine-judge panel on Tuesday, the court found that the unauthorized merging of polling centres and failure to address election complaints compromised the integrity of the vote.
The decision overturns a February 2026 High Court ruling that had upheld the election of DPP’s Francesca Theula Masamba.
