The Revolution for Leadership Change – a Movement for patriotic MCP members, has called on President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to step down as the party’s leader.
The Movement has also asked President Chakwera in line with the party’s Constitution to call for an emergency MCP Convention within this year for the party to move forward other than where it is now without direction.
The group has made it clear that members are not against Dr. Lazarus Chakwera but majority of MCP members and supporters don’t want Chakwera to continue as MCP President hence a call for him to resign and an urgent Convention.
Speaking during a press conference in Lilongwe, leader of the Movement Samson Chaziya said there are many reasons that have made MCP members and supporters call for Chakwera’s resignation from the party.

He said Dr. Lazarus Chakwera failed to listen to advices from some members of the party to remove all those who were at the helm of corruption in the party.
The Movement leader said nepotism was the order of the day in the MCP and this was seen with President Chakwera employing his children to strategic positions in government including diplomatic missions abroad.
Chaziya said in 2021 some members of the MCP went to the State House to accuse Chakwera of destroying the MCP but he didn’t listen to them.
He said the party was voted out of government for obvious reasons that many members and supporters of the MCP agree that the party deserved to lose the elections because of indecisiveness of the leader.
The Movement leader said the party has committees from its grassroot support Area, Constituency, District and Region saying President Chakwera has failed to support these people hence members have lost trust with him as their leader.

” The MCP is being run without a Constitution, President Chakwera has flouted the Constitution and is driving the party as per his wishes,” said Chaziya.
A Malawi Congress Party (MCP’) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala said he in support of the Revolution for Leadership Change in the MCP.
Kamphangala said the MCP Constitution is very clear that President Chakwera stood in the 2014 and 2019 elections, saying he was supposed to step down as the party’s President and is still the party’s President till this day.
He has reminded all members and supporters of the party that in the MCP Constitution, there’s no clause for life presidency, this position went with Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda to the grave and Chakwera is not another Kamuzu Banda of today.
The MCP diehard has appealed to patriotic members of the party to start contributing whatever one has for the Revolution for Leadership Change to call for an emergency Convention assuring MCP members that Dr. Lazarus Chakwera will not resign honorably but there’s need of force to remove him.
” You cannot expect the one who is above the MCP Constitution to call for a Convention for the delegates to remove him, this is what is happening with Dr. Lazarus Chakwera,” said Kamphangala.

He has warned MCP members and supporters that if they cannot use force to drive Chakwera out of the party’s presidency, MCP will be a divided party, a thing which must always be avoided.
