FAM Honours FIFA President Infantino with Special Scorchers Jersey

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya has presented a limited-edition Scorchers jersey to FIFA President Gianni Infantino as a gesture of appreciation for FIFA’s continued support towards the development of women’s football in Malawi.

The presentation took place during an international football gathering, where Haiya commended FIFA’s investment in the women’s game, saying it has played a significant role in the Scorchers’ historic qualification for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Haiya said the milestone achieved by the Malawi women’s national team reflects the positive impact of FIFA’s development programmes and sustained commitment to growing football across member associations.

“We are grateful for FIFA’s unwavering support, which has contributed to the remarkable progress of our women’s football. The Scorchers’ qualification for WAFCON is a proud achievement for Malawi and demonstrates what can be accomplished through strong partnerships,” Haiya said.

He also described Infantino as a visionary leader whose commitment to football development continues to transform the game across the globe.

“President Infantino’s leadership and dedication continue to inspire football associations worldwide. His vision is helping the world’s most loved game reach new heights,” Haiya added.

During the event, Haiya also interacted with football legends and administrators from different countries, exchanging ideas and experiences on strengthening football development.

He said the engagements provided an important platform to learn from global football leaders and explore strategies that can further improve the sport in Malawi, from grassroots development to elite competitions.

FAM has in recent years intensified efforts to develop both men’s and women’s football through infrastructure investment, youth programmes and partnerships with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

The Scorchers’ qualification for WAFCON stands as one of the biggest achievements in Malawi’s football history and has been widely celebrated as a breakthrough for women’s football in the country.
