MISA Malawi and Malawi Network of Older Persons Organisations (MANEPO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which will see MISA Malawi awarding excellent news reporting and programming around human rights issues of the elderly in Malawi.
The signing ceremony took place at Mtolankhani House in Lilongwe on Monday, October 10, 2022.
MISA Malawi Chairperson Teresa Ndanga said the partnership with MANEPO accords journalists an opportunity to access information including data on issues affecting older persons; motivate journalists to investigate and write more around these issues as well as improve journalists’ capacities on the topic.
MANEPO Country Director Andrew Kavala said the organisation expects the media to be more aggressive in fighting for the rights of older persons in Malawi.
Significant number of older persons in Malawi live in abject poverty and are often abused. Some have been killed on accusations of practicing witchcraft.
