Ministry of Health in collaboration with the United States (US) President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), has released the Malawi Population-based HIV Impact Assessment (MPHIA 2022-2021) Report.
The findings among others have demonstrated that Malawi has made significant progress in reducing annual HIV incidence among individuals 15 years and older by half, from 0.4 % in 2016 to 0.2% in 2021.
Deputy Minister of Health, Enock Phale, said the country has achieved a 97% viral load suppression on those that are on Antiretroviral therapy (ART).
The Deputy Minister nevertheless said the survey also highlighted that about 12% of the country’s population, largely young men do not know their HIV status.
