President Lazarus Chakwera says he will announce a leaner cabinet this January that will focus on delivery.
He has further disclosed appointing a Presidential Private Sector Council, comprising “respected private sector leaders that will directly be engaging him to appreciate the effectiveness of our economic policies in creating jobs and wealth in this New Year for Malawians who struggled last year.”
He was speaking during his New Year address; saying he has directed Secretary to the President and Cabinet to announce the members in the Council this week.
Chakwera has also described citizens participation in public affairs as critical in achieving national prosperity and unity.
The Malawi leader says he will make further orders to keep on the winning side against the corruption threat once he is done reviewing a Commission of Inquiry report into the irregular arrest of the Anti-Corruption Bureau chief Martha Chizuma once the committee submits its report.
Chakwera’s Tonse led administration is currently struggling to deliver its several campaign promises including ending corruption as some of his ministers, advisors and senior public officers have been implicated in multi-million kwacha corruption scandals.
Governance, human rights and religious groups think Chakwera is indecisive on serious matters of national interest requiring him to flex his authority in managing state affairs for the attainment of the promised better Malawi, whose future looks hazy now.
