Dowa has some contributing factors leading to escalating cholera cases which include contaminated water sources, lack of toilets by some households, unhygienic handling, preparation and consumption of some foods served in public gatherings.
The district recorded the first case of cholera in October, 2022 in the area of Senior Chief Msakambewa and from there, all health facilities started reporting cases with Mvera Mission and Mvera Army hit the most due to the communities’ drinking water from unprotected shallow wells.
Partners in Hope [PIH] under USAID CORE Grant is providing HIV Care and Support in seven health facilities of Dowa district and has been deeply touched with the escalation of cholera figures being reported in. the district.
