Lilongwe, September 1, Mana: President Dr Lazarus Chakwera has expressed optimism with the fourth summit meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), emphasising the initiative’s clear indication of bolstering Malawi’s infrastructure development through the Agriculture, Tourism and Mining (ATM) Strategy.
Speaking at Kamuzu International Airport before he departed for China, President Chakwera highlighted China’s commitment to implementing various development projects in Malawi.
President Chakwera is expected to join other African Heads of States and Governments on the 4th and 5th of September to consider and adopt the 2025-2027 Beijing FOCAC Plan of Action, which will guide China-Africa engagement in various sectors.
The Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) has been instrumental in Africa-China relations since its inception in 2000.
This year’s summit will be held under the theme “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Building a High-level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.”
Among other things, President Chakwera will hold bilateral talks with His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, the meeting which is expected to strengthen the cordial bilateral relations between Malawi and China and further enhance Malawi-China cooperation in various transport and infrastructure projects.
