MEC told to address concerns before rolling out the voter registration exercise

Opposition political parties have advised the electoral body- MEC, to address their concerns before rolling out the voter registration exercise tomorrow.

The Commission is set to commence phase one of the voter registration exercise from October 21st to November 3rd, 2024.

However, the onset coincides with concerns raised by electoral stakeholders, including the Democratic Progressive Party, Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), and UTM party.

Among other issues, the parties are concerned about the credibility and fairness of the 2025 tripartite elections.

Timothy Mtambo, Vice President for AFORD, said that the parties oppose using voting equipment procured from a company with a questionable reputation.

Mtambo has suggested that MEC should call a stakeholders’ meeting to address these concerns before proceeding with the voter registration process.
