Anderson Billiat, Chairperson of the CSO network, highlighted the importance of community participation in ensuring the success and long-term sustainability of development initiatives. “This recognition emphasizes the critical role that community involvement plays in shaping projects that truly benefit local populations. The council’s commitment to engaging the people of Chikwawa ensures that the projects are not only relevant but also impactful,” Billiat stated.

Billiat expressed optimism about the future impact of these development initiatives, noting that they are well-aligned with the priorities and aspirations of the community. He further noted that the projects promote capacity building and skills development, which will empower residents long after the physical infrastructure is completed.

His remarks came after the CSOs conducted an inspection of several ongoing projects, including the construction of classrooms at Nkuzi Community Day Secondary School, facilities at Nkhathe Health Post, and Nsangwe Umoyo Houses. The projects are part of the larger GESD and DDF initiatives aimed at enhancing local governance and improving service delivery.

The success of these projects, Billiat emphasized, is a result of effective collaboration between the district council, community members, and development partners. The CSO network hopes that such an inclusive approach will continue to be a model for future development efforts across Malawi, ensuring that projects meet the needs of the people they are intended to serve.

As Chikwawa District continues to develop, the collaborative spirit seen in the implementation of the GESD and DDF projects is expected to foster greater trust between the government, civil society, and the community. This partnership will be crucial in delivering sustainable development and improving the quality of life for all residents.
