UTM politician Patricia Kaliati outlined her vision for improving the lives of Malawians, emphasizing affordable fertilizer and clean water for rural communities as key priorities.
Speaking during her campaign, Kaliati pledged to ensure that the price of fertilizer would not exceed K28,000, a measure she believes will ease the burden on farmers and boost agricultural productivity. “Fertilizer is the backbone of our agriculture. Affordable prices will allow our farmers to thrive and feed the nation,” she stated.
In addition, Kaliati promised to expand access to clean water by ensuring piped water reaches every village in Malawi. She highlighted the importance of clean water in improving health, reducing the burden on women and children, and fostering community development.
Reflecting on the industrious spirit of farmers, Kaliati remarked, “Chulukechuluke ngwa njuchi, umaona yomwe yakulima” (Bees are many, but you can always spot the one that has been working). This metaphor underscores her belief in hard work and dedication to creating tangible improvements for the people of Malawi.
Kaliati’s proposals have resonated with many in rural areas who continue to face challenges in accessing affordable agricultural inputs and clean water. Her emphasis on practical solutions may position her as a strong advocate for grassroots development in Malawi.
