Mighty Wanderers continued their fight for the 2024 TNM Super League title with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Bangwe All Stars this afternoon. The solitary goal came in the 33rd minute from Misheck Botomani, giving the second-placed Wanderers 53 points from 26 games. While their title chase remains slim, the victory keeps their hopes alive, as they must now rely on league leaders Silver Strikers to drop points in their remaining matches.
With just four games left in the season, if Mighty Wanderers win their remaining fixtures, they could finish with a maximum of 65 points. However, Silver Strikers, who are currently leading the table with 57 points after a commanding 6-1 victory over MAFCO, are in no mood to ease their grip on the top spot. With only five matches left, Silver Strikers can reach a maximum of 72 points, meaning Mighty Wanderers must hope for a significant slip-up from the Bankers if they are to have any chance of claiming the title.
In the same breath, FOMO FC managed to keep their relegation fight alive with a crucial 1-0 victory over Creck Sporting Club. Hassan Hussen’s 20th-minute goal proved to be the match-winner, allowing FOMO to move up to 14th place with 25 points. With five games left to play, FOMO can reach a maximum of 34 points, keeping their survival hopes intact.
On the other hand, Bangwe All Stars, who are 13th with 27 points, are still under threat of relegation. If they win their remaining two matches, they could collect a maximum of 33 points, potentially pushing them out of danger. However, they must be cautious, as FOMO and Karonga United are both breathing down their necks in the relegation zone.
In other matches, Baka City, already relegated, played out a 1-1 draw against Dedza Dynamos. The result leaves Dedza in 11th place with 35 points, still with a chance to climb into the top eight if they win their final two games and other results go in their favor.
As the 2024 season heads towards its final stretch, the race for qualification to the prestigious Airtel Top 8 is also intensifying. The current top eight positions are held by:
- Silver Strikers – 57 points
- Mighty Wanderers – 53 points
- Nyasa Big Bullets – 44 points
- Mzuzu City Hammers – 44 points
- Civil Service United – 39 points
- Creck Sporting Club – 38 points
- Karonga United – 38 points
- MAFCO FC – 38 points
The top eight will secure a spot in the 2025 Airtel Top 8 competition, a crucial milestone for clubs aiming for silverware and increased exposure.
As the season heads into its final stretch, all eyes will be on the remaining fixtures, with teams battling for both the title and survival in the league. The next few weeks promise exciting and unpredictable action as the 2024 TNM Super League concludes.
