Human Rights Advocator Sir Charles Ben Longwe, has advised the country’s leaders to refrain from abusing the citizens claiming that the present MCP leadership of Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has abused Malawians more than what Dr. Kamuzu Banda did.
Quoting from the Holy Bible 1 Kings Chapter 11 and 12 Ben Longwe said President Chakwera has carried more abuse on Malawians in his five years of ruling the country claiming that most Malawians are sleeping with empty stomachs as they cannot afford to buy a bag of 50Kgs maize at K110,000.
He has described the much touted age limit bill being championed by the MCP as the worst abuse on the land happening in a democratic country which gives equal opportunities to all including those that are being described as the aged.
Speaking through an audio clip, Ben Longwe has argued that by planning to table the age limit bill in Parliament, the MCP has proved that it has done with all Malawians except for one person -Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and this should be done with the Malawi Parliament.
Ben Longwe has accused Members of Parliament (MPs) for failing to table a bill of reducing presidential powers and today, they want to use the same Parliament to advance their political agenda by making sure that Professor Mutharika should be barred from contesting on 16th September, 2025.
He said if the MPs were clever than Malawians, they would have assisted government to bring a system that would put the country’s economy back on track for the Malawi Kwacha to gain control to a single digit.
The Advocator said he has noted with a great concern that the MCP has no welfare of the citizens at heart, it cares more of itself, prices of essential commodity are changing every day one visits the shops and what is more worrisome is that, there is no Price Control Commission in Malawi.
“Even Professor Mutharika is barred from contesting, Malawians have made up their plans to settle for a proven leadership and no one will force them to change their decision, MCP must build more prisons to carter for many Malawians who will be at risk of being arrested for freely expressing their mind,” said Ben Longwe
Meanwhile, Political activist Bon Kalindo has asked the whereabouts of the HRDC, Gift Trapence, Reverend MacDonald Sembereka, and Billy Mayaya during this time Malawians in calamities after calamities with no hope for a better tomorrow.
Kalindo has observed that if what is happening today was happening in 2019 -2020 during the reign of the DPP with the HRDC organizing demonstrations after demonstrations, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika’s head would have been cut into pieces.
