Serious concerns are emerging over alleged exploitation and corruption surrounding labour recruitment deals sending Malawians to work in Israel, with some recruitment agents reportedly demanding as much as K2.5 million from each applicant.

The development has sparked anger among citizens, with growing calls for authorities to immediately investigate what many are describing as an organised scheme targeting vulnerable and desperate job seekers.

According to reports, aspiring workers are allegedly being forced to pay huge sums of money in exchange for promises of employment opportunities in Israel. Critics argue that such amounts are unreasonable and exploitative in a country where many young people are struggling with unemployment, poverty, and economic hardship.

There are also allegations that some individuals both in Malawi and Israel could be working together in a wider network designed to benefit financially from desperate citizens seeking greener pastures abroad.

Concerned citizens have since called upon law enforcement agencies to launch a full-scale investigation into the matter and ensure that all individuals involved are held accountable.

The public is further demanding action from the Ministry of Labour, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, immigration authorities, and the Office of the President and Cabinet to establish whether the recruitment process complies with Malawian labour laws and international recruitment standards.

Labour experts warn that without strict oversight, overseas recruitment programs can easily become breeding grounds for fraud, corruption, human trafficking, and exploitation.

Malawians are therefore urging government to protect citizens from illegal recruitment practices and ensure that labour export arrangements genuinely benefit workers instead of enriching a few connected individuals.

The allegations come at a time when thousands of young Malawians continue searching for employment opportunities outside the country due to rising economic pressures and limited local job opportunities.

Citizens say the government must act swiftly, decisively, and transparently to restore public trust and protect vulnerable people from exploitation.
