“A plant is shaped while still young.” If we wait until the elections are upon us, it will be too late to fix a broken system. Now is the time for all opposition parties, aspiring candidates, and every citizen who desires justice to rise and demand a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
The September elections are already compromised—that much is clear. We should not waste time debating issues that have already been proven as failures under the current leadership. Instead, we must focus on the real battle: demanding an election process that is truly democratic.
The Key Demands
- Fresh Voter Registration – Without a clean and fair voter registration process, elections are nothing more than a staged play with a predetermined outcome. A system riddled with irregularities cannot be trusted.
- Removal of MCP Die-Hards in MEC – “We know it too well that “One does not fight against the hand that feeds them.” Those deeply loyal to MCP will not serve the people’s interest but their own. They must go if MEC is to be neutral.
- Ban Smartmatic Machines – A compromised votes counting system is a stolen election. There are already serious concerns about Smartmatic machines being tools for manipulation. Why should we trust a system with questionable integrity?
- Reject MACRA Spying Machines – Democracy cannot exist in a country where people are spied on, silenced, and controlled. A free nation does not monitor its citizens like criminals. This is a direct attack on freedom of speech and expression and this may compromise Election
The Time for Action is Now
If we remain silent now, we will be prisoners of regret tomorrow. This is not just about political parties; it is about the future of the country. Rigged elections mean rigged leadership, and rigged leadership means continued suffering for all Malawians.
We say if these Demands are ignored we must Boycott the September Elections and be in a period of transitional government.
Let us unite in one voice and demand what is rightfully ours—a fair, transparent, and credible election. Because if we don’t demand justice today, we will mourn the consequences tomorrow.
