Renowned socio-economic activist Gerald Kampanikiza has on Thursday emerged victorious in the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) primary parliamentary election for Dedza Boma constituency.
Kampanikiza secured a comfortable win with 334 votes, outpacing five other candidates in what was anticipated to be a highly contested race at the Dedza Stadium.
The results showed Howard Mzambwe coming in second with 194 votes, followed by Jane Namalomba Kamwanje with 37 votes. Felicity Kadzampakeni and Francis Chimpikiso each garnered 10 votes.
Phillimon Ngozo, Dedza District MCP secretary, commended the peaceful conduct of the elections.
“Let me express my gratitude to all the participants, that is the MCP’s victory in this primary election a clear testament to the party’s strength. Let me urge everyone to support President Lazarus Chakwera’s development agenda,” said Kampanikiza.
