FDH Bank in Likoma District has donated an N70 Exide car battery, valued at approximately K350,000, to the local police as part of its commitment to supporting security efforts in the area.
Speaking during the handover ceremony, FDH Bank Manager Alexander Chikolera emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility, stating that the bank recognizes the need to contribute to the safety and well-being of the community in which it operates.
“We understand that security is essential for both businesses and residents. As a responsible institution, we want to ensure that our law enforcement officers have the necessary resources to carry out their duties effectively,” said Chikolera.
In response, the Officer-in-Charge of Likoma Police, Spencer Martin Dambolachepa Jinja, expressed gratitude for the timely donation, noting that it would help improve police mobility and response times.
“We often face unexpected situations that require urgent police intervention. Reliable transportation is crucial for us to reach crime scenes swiftly, and this donation will go a long way in ensuring that we serve the community better,” said Jinja.
The donation has been widely welcomed by the local community, as residents have frequently raised concerns about the challenges faced by law enforcement officers, including a lack of adequate transport and other essential resources.
With security being a priority for both businesses and the general public, such partnerships between private institutions and law enforcement are seen as a positive step toward improving safety and law enforcement efficiency in Likoma.
