As we edge closer to the September 16 general elections, Malawi stands at a defining moment.
The cries of the people echo across villages and cities alike—cries of hunger, hopelessness, and betrayal.
In a nation where fuel queues grow longer, hospitals run dry, and youth walk the streets jobless, the people now turn their eyes to the opposition—their last and only hope. But what do they see?
They see quarrels over positions, silent wars of pride, and poisonous whispers of who should lead and who should follow.
They see egos where they hoped for empathy. They see division where they prayed for deliverance.
“When brothers fight, the stranger inherits the wealth.”
Opposition leaders, understand this: your disunity is the oxygen that fuels the fire of the Malawi Congress Party.
Every insult, every act of pomposity, every refusal to form an alliance, is not just political suicide—it is national betrayal.
You are not just disagreeing among yourselves; you are tightening the rope with which you will be politically hanged. And worse, you are dragging 20 million Malawians down with you.
Some have said, “He is too old to run.” But age is not a disqualifier in a democracy—it is experience.
“A village that ignores the wisdom of its elders walks blindly into the storm.” Let us not forget: democracy is not built on youth or age; it is built on purpose, vision, and servant leadership.
A true patriot does not fear who leads, as long as the people are led out of poverty, corruption, and despair.
We must ask you, the leaders of the opposition: Is it power you seek, or is it the people you serve?
Because if it is about the people—truly about the people—then positions should not divide you otherwise you will be gambling with the future of this country.
Malawi does not need rulers; it needs rescuers. And rescuers do not argue over the steering wheel when the ship is sinking—they unite to save every soul aboard.
“If the opposition cannot agree in the dark, how will they govern in the light?”
If you are failing to build an alliance now, when the enemy is strong and the people are desperate—what will happen when you are in government? Will it be another circus of greed and infighting? Or will you put the interest of the nation above your own?
Malawians are not asking for miracles. They are simply asking you to come together. To speak with one voice. To remember that the real opponent is not each other—but hunger, injustice, unemployment, and failed leadership.
“The teeth may fall out, but the tongue must still speak the truth.”
And the truth is this: Malawi is on fire. The people are tired. And time is running out.
History will not be kind to those who let pride rob this nation of change.
You still have time—time to lay down your egos and pick up the burden of the people. Time to forge alliances not for your comfort, but for the country’s survival. Time to become patriots, not politicians.
“When the roots are united, the tree stands firm.”
Let this be your legacy: not as individuals who failed to agree, but as leaders who rose above self to deliver a nation from the edge of collapse.
Malawi is watching. The people are hoping. The future is calling. Choose unity above pomposity Choose Malawi.
