Former President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika has officially presented his presidential nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).
The move marks a significant milestone in his bid to return to the country’s highest office under the banner of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
The nomination submission took place before MEC officials, signaling Mutharika’s formal entry into the 2025 presidential race.
Supporters of the DPP gathered in numbers to accompany their leader, expressing excitement and optimism about his candidacy.
Professor Mutharika, who previously served as Head of State from 2014 to 2020, is seeking a comeback with promises to rebuild the economy, restore public trust, and provide strong leadership.
His presentation of nomination papers now awaits verification and validation by MEC to ensure full compliance with all constitutional and electoral requirements.
Once cleared, Mutharika will be one of the key contenders in what is expected to be a tightly contested election scheduled for September 16, 2025.
Speaking after the submission, Mutharika reiterated his commitment to peaceful campaigning and urged all political players to respect democratic principles.
He also took the opportunity to outline key elements of his upcoming campaign, including plans to revive agriculture, address corruption, and enhance youth employment.
The development adds momentum to the DPP’s campaign machinery, which is already mobilizing across the country ahead of the polls.
