Opposition Leaders, Put Malawi First Before Personal Interests

By Comrade jumbe 30/07/25

At this pivotal moment in Malawi’s history, it is essential that opposition political parties — the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), United Transformation Movement (UTM), People’s Party (PP), and United Democratic Front (UDF) — rise above pride, personal ambitions, and the love of positions or money.

The time for ego-driven politics is over. The time to serve the people has come.

What Malawians need now is not another five years of suffering, economic hardship, and broken promises. What they need is liberation — a break from the burdens imposed by the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) government.

That liberation cannot happen if the opposition remains fragmented, disorganized, and focused on individual interests.

This is not a time to compare past votes or dwell on old numbers. This is 2025 — not 2019. In politics, even a single day can shift the winds of fortune, and one week is an eternity.

Clinging to outdated vote patterns or personal glory is a grave miscalculation.

The political landscape is fluid, and the demands of the people are urgent.

There are those rejoicing when they see DPP, UTM, PP, and UDF failing to unite.

There are those within MCP who bank on opposition arrogance and division to retain power.

If the major opposition parties cannot forge a coalition, they risk dividing the vote — particularly in the Southern Region and across the nation — into pieces too weak to challenge MCP’s stronghold.

Let us stop dreaming of winning as separate entities.

That illusion will only result in a repeat of history — a loss that leaves 20 million Malawians to suffer another five years under the same government.

To DPP, UTM, PP, and UDF leaders: Malawi is bigger than your party.

It is greater than your position. It is more important than any financial promise you’ve been made.

History is watching, and so are millions of citizens who still believe that real change is possible — but only if unity comes before pride.

Forming a grand coalition now will not only show political maturity, but will also send a strong message that you are genuinely committed to serving the people.

Yes, sacrifices must be made. Yes, egos must be humbled. But that is the cost of true leadership. That is the price of patriotism.

This is a crucial moment of decision-making. You can choose to write history as heroes who came together for the good of the country — or be remembered as leaders who allowed personal ambition to prolong national suffering.

Unite. Win. Serve. Or divide. Lose. And regret.

The choice is yours — but the consequences will be felt by every Malawian. Let unity prevail.
