This vital electoral milestone marks the end of the nomination process for all categories of candidates—Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government aspirants.
The closing ceremony was held on Tuesday, 30th July 2025, at 4:00 PM, drawing to a close a series of submissions that have taken place over several days across the country.
Speaking during the occasion, MEC officials underscored the significance of this stage in preparing for the tripartite elections scheduled for 16th September 2025.
The event was also an opportunity to reaffirm the Commission’s commitment to transparency, inclusiveness, and fairness in managing the electoral process.
Candidates from different political parties and independent hopefuls have now formally expressed their intention to contest by submitting the required nomination documentation.
This step is essential in cementing their eligibility to appear on the official ballot in what is expected to be one of Malawi’s most closely watched elections in recent history.
As the nomination window closes, MEC will now proceed to scrutinize and verify the submitted papers to ensure compliance with all legal and procedural requirements.
The Commission also reminded Malawians that the power to shape the nation’s future lies in their vote.
With the theme “Voti Yanu, Ufulu Wanu, Kusankha Kwanu” (Your Vote, Your Right, Your Choice), MEC continues to promote citizen participation and electoral awareness.
As campaigns begin to intensify, the nation turns its focus to the issues, manifestos, and leadership choices that will define Malawi beyond 2025.
