A Concerned Citizen of Malawi Mrs. Elizabeth Kaliza Banda of Area 51 in Lilongwe, has expressed her grave concern over the MCP government continued silence on fertilizers describing the silence as a betrayal of justice to farmers in Malawi.
Kaliza said Malawi is known as a country taking farming as a business, growing crops like maize as a staple food and selling the surplus for money, claiming that this is July, 2025 with a month to go to the 16th September, 2025 elections, the future of fertilizer and its price, is in darkness.
She has claimed to have followed the 2025 MCP manifesto and the speech made by President Dr. Lazarus Cghakwera during his presentation of nomination papers in Lilongwe, saying he spoke nothing of fertilizers and corruption being practiced by individuals in his government.
Kaliza has urged Civil Society Organizations (CSOS) to take government to task to explain logistics surrounding fertilizers to Malawi and the country where it will come from to avoid past scenarios where fertilizers have been procured in a butchery and pharmacies.
She has warned Malawians that if the state of affairs on fertilizers remained as quiet as being observed today with much emphasis by the MCP led government focusing on their campaign through handouts of K50,000s to entice the voters to vote for them, Malawi will be a doomed country.
“This is July, 2025 the MCP government has chosen to remain silent on fertilizer logistics and prices, this government has no welfare of the citizens at heart,” said Kaliza Banda.
Business entrepreneur Kondwani Kachamba writing on his face book page, has asked the MCP government to feel ashamed and pity of fertilizer prices from K24,000 to K151,000 per bag questioning President Chakwera how will the people grow and in 3 years to come, where will the country and its people be?
Ngwira has asked President Chakwera why he is not feeling sorry that in 5 years of his rule for the first time in Malawi, fuel service stations have time –tables of fuel deliveries making users to be moving up and down hunting for fuel in service stations.
He has further asked President Chakwera that is he not feeling sorry that during this harvesting period of maize (July) maize price has reached K70,000 and transport from Mzuzu to Blantyre which was K15,000 is now K80,000.”
“If one questions the leaders to explain, will he be wrong, don’t be clapping hands at nonsense, drinking mahewu should not stop people from questioning them, university fees have skyrocketed from 250 thousand Kwacha to over K1 million, house rentals have gone up, Road Traffic is printing new licenses and driving licenses on A4 papers saying this has never happened before,’ reads Ngwira’s writings on the wall.
Ngwira has challenged the MCP led government under President Chakwera to choose justice and be free and if what he has written are lies, government mu st in the open come to point out which one adding that printing of passports has become a nightmare.
