The international event brought together innovators, entrepreneurs, and trade giants from across Africa and beyond — but it was Malawi’s creative, vibrant, and professional showcase that stole the spotlight.

Patrick Botha, spokesperson for the Ministry of Trade and Industry, said the recognition was a milestone moment for the country.

“This is a proud moment for Malawi. It shows that our businesses can shine globally when given a platform to showcase their potential through creativity and innovation,” said Botha.

He encouraged local businesses to adopt a global mindset and take bold steps into international markets, emphasizing that Malawi’s potential in trade and industrialization is limitless.

The Malawi Investment and Trade Centre (MITC), which led the delegation, expressed excitement over the win, describing it as proof of Malawi’s rising competitiveness.

MITC Director General Kruger Phiri hailed the country’s exhibitors for their dedication and excellence, saying the achievement reflects growing global confidence in Malawi’s products and investment climate.

“Our team worked tirelessly to promote Malawi’s image as a destination of choice for trade and investment. This award is a testament to their hard work and creativity,” said Phiri.

He further noted that global expos like Botswana’s are critical in positioning Malawi as a serious regional economic player.

The Malawian delegation featured 12 Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), trade experts, and officials from the Malawi Consulate General in South Africa, who proudly displayed a range of locally made products and services.

For many exhibitors, the victory was personal. Vanessa Banda, one of the SME representatives, said the award has inspired them to aim even higher.

“This recognition gives us confidence to expand and continue representing Malawi on global platforms. It proves that we can compete with creativity and excellence,” she said.

As the applause echoes from Gaborone to Lilongwe, one thing is clear — Malawi’s trade potential is no longer a secret to the world.
