Vice President Dr. Jane Ansah attended the unveiling of the Malawi Fashion Identity, a groundbreaking initiative by renowned fashion designer Lily Alfonso.

The project, titled Creative DNA Malawi, aims to highlight the unique creativity and cultural heritage of Malawi through fashion.

The initiative is supported by the British Council, which has provided technical and strategic backing to promote the country’s fashion industry.

During her speech, Lily Alfonso emphasized the immense potential of Malawian creatives to contribute to national economic transformation if given the right support and investment.

She called on government, private sector stakeholders, and development partners to increase funding and resources for the fashion industry to enable local designers to thrive.

Alfonso highlighted that Malawi’s fashion talent is abundant but often underutilized due to limited exposure, inadequate infrastructure, and insufficient investment.

Vice President Ansah commended the project, noting that initiatives like Creative DNA Malawi showcase Malawi’s rich cultural identity and offer opportunities for youth employment and entrepreneurship.

She encouraged stakeholders to work together to nurture the creative industry, emphasizing that fashion can play a vital role in driving economic growth and enhancing Malawi’s global cultural footprint.
